Empowering Youth Through Mentoring: Exciting Updates from SBX Youth and Family Services!

With the start of the new school year just around the corner, we at SBX Youth and Family Services are buzzing with excitement! We are thrilled to introduce our new team of dynamic mentors, all set to make a profound difference in the lives of youth in the Inland Empire and Los Angeles County.

These mentors bring with them a diverse range of experiences, expertise, and passions, making them a perfect fit for our mission. Their dedication to empowering the next generation is truly inspiring, and we are confident that their mentorship will ignite a positive impact that will resonate for years to come.

As we embark on this journey together, we envision a future where our youth not only thrive academically but also overcome obstacles and realize their full potential in all aspects of life. Through meaningful connections, guidance, and unwavering support, our mentors aim to foster an environment where every young individual can flourish and achieve their dreams.

But that's not all! SBX Youth and Family Services proudly wraps up a successful and transformative summer with our expanded learning program and summer events! Throughout this enriching 6-week series, we had the privilege of impacting the lives of 40-50 marginalized youth, spanning 6th to 12th grade, including those from foster care, TAY (Transition-Aged Youth), system-impacted, LGBTQIA+, English-learners, and low-income backgrounds.

Our summer program was carefully designed with a focus on trauma-informed approaches, providing a safe space for our participants to share their experiences and grow stronger together. Using ACE surveys, we gained invaluable insights into their lived experiences, enabling us to create safeguards and tailor our approach to their unique needs.

One of the cornerstones of our initiative was peer-led learning, where youth themselves took on the roles of group leaders and actively participated in workshop development. This empowering experience instilled a sense of responsibility and ownership, turning their pain into power, and fostering leadership skills that will serve them well in the future.

Our Field Day event was nothing short of exhilarating! Amidst cheers and laughter, our young participants engaged in an array of field events, from exhilarating flag football matches to spirited activities that brought out their team spirit. It was a joyous occasion, filled with camaraderie and moments that will be cherished for a lifetime.

Throughout the program, we addressed the social, emotional, academic, and physical needs of our students. Team-building activities and small group discussions honed their communication and interpersonal skills, while mindfulness practices and stress reduction techniques supported their emotional well-being. We provided hands-on learning opportunities, nurturing skills that could be applied both academically and in the workforce. Furthermore, we encouraged healthy habits and self-care practices, offering nutritious snacks, incorporating physical activities, and connecting participants with additional support resources when needed.

Together, with the unwavering support of our mentors, volunteers, and the community, we are determined to create a brighter and more promising future for the generations to come. We believe that mentoring and youth development are essential in building stronger communities, dismantling barriers, and empowering our youth to achieve their full potential.

So, let's go, hand in hand, and make this academic year one filled with success, achievements, and transformative experiences! Together, we are making a difference, one mentorship at a time.

Embrace the journey of empowerment, where no mountain is insurmountable, and no river too wide. Together, through mentorship and unity, we're shaping a world where every youth's potential shines, and every family's resilience thrives.

Empowering Black Fathers: Celebrating Success in the Black Fatherhood Program

On June 30th, 2023, SBX Youth and Family Services proudly held another inspiring graduation ceremony for the Black Fatherhood program, celebrating the achievements of six exceptional fathers. The evening was filled with unforgettable speeches, heartwarming interactions, and a sense of camaraderie that truly captured the essence of this remarkable program.

The Black Fatherhood program is more than just a program; it is a safe space for black men to be vulnerable, share experiences, and gain knowledge and awareness of the impact of their presence, support, and voice in the family dynamic. It seeks to eliminate the exclusion of fathers as secondary parents and create a supportive network where fathers can flourish and make a lasting impact on their families and communities.

This program holds special significance, as black babies face double the risk of dying before their first birthday, with California having the highest infant mortality rate for black infants. By focusing on improving birth outcomes and reducing black infant mortality, the Black Fatherhood program recognizes the vital role fathers play in a child's healthy development.

The recent graduation ceremony not only celebrated the accomplishments of these fathers but also provided an opportunity for prospective fathers to witness the invaluable benefits that await them within the Black Fatherhood community. Lifelong friendships and bonds are fostered in this program, creating a supportive and transformative environment for participants.

As we look to the future, SBX is excited about the promising journey that lies ahead for these remarkable fathers. The Black Fatherhood program offers a chance to break barriers, challenge societal norms, and redefine what it means to be a father. Through uplifting and celebrating the legacy of Black Fatherhood, these dedicated dads are making a difference in their families and communities.

We invite more fathers to join us on this journey of empowerment and support as we continue to build stronger communities, one father at a time. Together, we celebrate the successes of the Black Fatherhood program and its inspiring graduates, reinforcing the importance of fatherhood and the positive impact it has on our children's lives.
